I feel like I should repost this every time a new walker spoils. #mtg #magicthegathering #spoilerseason #spoilers #wotc #wizardsofthecoast #planeswalkers #psa

I pretty much stopped considering ultimates when appraising planeswalkers. I can’t even remember the last time I used an ult. It’s the first two abilities that make all the difference because you need as much impact as possible in the window between resolving the ‘walker and losing it to removal, and that window is usually too short to ult. That being said, I think the new Ajani’s abilities are pretty solid. Three +1/+1 counters is nothing to laugh at and card advantage is nice, especially on a +1 ability. But his casting cost might need to be worked around. I can see him in midrange decks that might be able to accelerate him out on turn 3-4 to start generating some card advantage. Aggressive decks probably won’t have room for more than one, if any, and would more likely play Domri at this point. Thinking about it now, I want to figure out a combo deck with Ajani, Vorel, and the new Sage. Just keep putting 3 counters on the Sage and doubling them to take turns.
